CLICK A MOUSE, FEED A MOUTH

This link is for a nobel cause.

www.freerice.com

"A food-linked word game put on the Internet a month ago has proved a runaway success and has already generated enough rice to feed 50,000 people, the United Nations World Food Programme said on Friday."

All you need to do is select the correct definition from the multiple choice options of the given word and you help to contribute 10 rice grains for the needy.

In way to doing this, you might actually improve your vocab.

Shows how the tech. things is having impact everywhere.

SPREAD THE WORD.

HINT : Keep your favourite(favorite) dictionary out or just google ;)

Web application disaster planning

On the evening of Sept. 17, one of the biggest hosting providers in the US, Layered Technologies in Plano, Texas, suffered a major security breech. Hackers managed to access the company's support database and download client data on something between 5,000 and 6,000 user accounts.

Corruption in OOXML standardization vote also in the Balkans?

Votes from South-eastern Europe and former Yugoslavia countries showed Microsoft's domination of that market, and especially good connections with authorities because most of the national standardization bodies voted "Yes with no comments". Just how did Microsoft get OOXML support in Eastern Europe? More corruption?

iGoogle - The near Complete story

There is lot of buzz about iGoogle, so here is almost complete or say satisfying pick on the big thing.

This is what www.techcrunch.com reported :---

"

Rebrand & New Features: Google IG To Relaunch as iGoogle

Michael Arrington

Google’s personalized home page, Google IG, has been rebranded as iGoogle and will relaunch tomorrow at igoogle.com. A number of bloggers were brought in to Google HQ today and are reporting the details.

iGoogle is Google’s entrant into the crowded customizable Ajax home page space, where My Yahoo is the clear leader with over 50 million monthly unique visitors. iGoogle currently has just over 7 million monthly unique visitors.

But Google has never promoted iGoogle, and it has a number of superior features to MyYahoo. The most important is that Google’s personalized home page supports widgets (they call them gadgets). Yahoo has stubbornly refused to integrate the My Yahoo property with their Konfabulator widgets platform. Through Google widgets, users can bring Gmail, Gtalk and other services right to their home page. Finally, Google allows users to customize the template of iGoogle - they say that 30% of users choose to do this.

Google is now offering a “personalized home” link on their main home page, which will drive significant numbers of new users to the site. Look out, Yahoo.

"

Well it is almost complete story in itself, but "how 2 do it" is not clearly explained.

But as reported by many places -- www.iGoogle.com returns the original google search page.

To get to the Personalised Google homepage, we have to try

http://www.google.com/ig

This Google homepage is not something new and has been on the scene for quite a while, the only thing which is making it stand out is its widgets(gadgets) which are better than MyYahoo!. The few good or rather timepass gadgets include knowing ur IP address, weather, calender, Optical illusions, text to translate, youtube apart from Gmail preview(u may add more).
But have a try on MyYahoo also (if u haven't yet)

http://my.yahoo.com

MyYahoo which is quite as popular as Yahoo mail itself is very good and needs 2 be seen will Google rebranding policy after Froggle will work against Yahoo.

Untill then Google vs Yahoo
continues!!!

Orkut Hidden SWF!

Well I discovered something unusual this morning when I logged on to orkut, something which intrigued me but it might be just mountain out of a molehill.

The 'hidden' SWF or the 'transparent' SWF ie flash can been detected if you have a Mozilla Firefox with AdBlock addon installed. The SWF is at right bottom corner of the browser and can been detected coz of 'Adblock' button seen.

The swf is probably coz of google talk but no idea why it has been put up now and in this manner.
The info we get about the Swf is --- http://orkut.com/talk/datastore2.swf

Probably something which needs some research :)
